“Inflatable” may not be the first quality that comes to mind when imagining which characteristics expedition-style tents built for the most extreme conditions on the planet might require, but Heimplanet continues to prove otherwise with its air-powered approach.

The brand’s latest limited-edition release, the Mavericks Blue Ice edition, is the strongest tent Heimplanet has ever created, and it includes a few notable upgrades that make its element-defying shelter more capable than ever.

Ice, ice baby

The Mavericks Blue Ice expedition-grade tent can be set up by a single person in just five minutes thanks to its inflatable design, and that is just the beginning of its utility.

Released as a durable limited-edition version of the Mavericks, the Blue Ice includes a new, more durable flysheet material made with a Sil/PU5000 coating, improved roof construction for better water drainage and snow load reduction and upgraded ventilation systems in both the upper and lower parts of the tent.

The Blue Ice edition fits ten people and offers over 14 square feet of interior space, with a peak height of nearly 6 feet.

The tent is supported by Heimplanet’s innovative dual-layer geodesic inflation structure, which is engineered to give the tent increased strength and wind resistance.

For reference, that wind-resistant design means the Mavericks Blue Ice can withstand wind velocities up to 111 mph.

At 55.5 pounds, the Mavericks Blue Ice is a car-camping tent only, but considering the extreme conditions it is designed for, backpacking wouldn’t be a viable option anyway.

Besides, if you’re heading out on expeditions where conditions are challenging at best, you’re going to want a tent that can be set up quickly and simply.

How does such a massive tent achieve such a minimal setup time? The Mavericks’ struts are connected through a series of valves, meaning you can pump the whole tent up from one valve.

One caveat: If it is anything like previous Heimplanet tents we have reviewed, the initial set-up will take more time and effort. However, once it is all sorted, future inflation will be a snap.

Additional upgrades

The Mavericks Blue Ice edition comes with upgrades to the structure itself and to the accessories that come with the tent.

A new ten-piece set of extra large pegs, an 8-piece set of standard pegs, and two new, double-stroke floor pumps make setting up this rugged tent in challenging conditions easier than ever.

The Mavericks Blue Ice tent also comes with a removable groundsheet, tent duffle bag, repair kit and guy lines.

Availability and pricing

The Heimplanet Mavericks Blue Ice is available now for preorder on the brand’s official website, and it will begin shipping in November.
