Kizer has been a consistent, prolific brand in the EDC knife space for some years now. And one of the brand’s greatest strengths is the diversity of its offerings.

Perhaps, then, the new Kizer Begleiter 2.9 is a perfect exemplification of that. Yet, while offering variety within the model itself, the brand has also shown its penchant for reliable, versatile, solid, all-around everyday carry blades.

Variety is the spice of life

At present, there are six available models of the Begleiter 2.9. While I cannot say why, the black-and-green option is not yet available on the brand’s site.

Even still, there’s a lot of variety to be had between its six available variants. Between them, there are two locking mechanisms, three different steels, two handle materials and a bevy of other tweaks and twists.

Depending on the configuration you get, the knife comes with either a crossbar or button lock.

Let’s start with locks. This knife can be had with either a button lock or a crossbar. Functionally, they offer virtually the same strength and reliability, so the choice really comes down to preference (the crossbar is also better for lefties and ambidextrous folks).

While the blade is the same 2.9-inch drop-point no matter the configuration, it can be had in B1DN (similar to VG-10), S35VN or Damascus steel (with price differences therein).

Lastly, the handle is your choice of aluminum (with varying etching patterns) or Micarta (with varying colors). While the former is tougher overall, the latter is grippier and more all-conditions-friendly.

Like the lock, the blade is available in multiple steels, including B1DN, S35VN and Damascus.

Making the cut

That’s a lot to choose from in a single knife model, I admit. However, there’s an equal amount shared between the configurations, which is arguably more important.

For instance, all versions of the knife, as mentioned, have a 2.9-inch drop-point blade. They are also all the same length overall, clocking in at 7.03 inches.

They also all have thumb stud deployments (which are ambidextrous) and reversible pocket clips.

While the materials and colors vary, the size specs remain the same for all versions of this knife.

Regardless of which you choose, this is an outstanding do-it-all EDC knife that will surely become a reliable companion. It doesn’t hurt that it’s relatively affordable across all variations, either.

If Kizer has been on your radar but you haven’t pulled the trigger yet, this could be a spectacular introduction that just might become a go-to favorite.

Availability and pricing

Available in six distinct configurations, the Kizer Begleiter 2.9 is now available at Kizer’s site, starting at $70 (and going up to $120). However, it is selling fast.
