Millennia before Fujin began appearing in Mortal Kombat games, Fūjin was worshipped and feared by Shintoists and Buddhists as the mighty Japanese god of the wind.

Often depicted as a disheveled demon, he is nonetheless rarely seen without his indispensable wind bag.

Two large backpacks, one white and one black, made from a crinkled, textured material. Each backpack features multiple zippered compartments, including a prominent front pocket with black zipper pulls and black rectangular patches. Both have black straps and buckles on the sides and a small black label near the bottom that reads "FABRIC BY ALUUJA." The backpacks are standing upright against a plain white background.
The Osprey x Carryology Fūjin capsule consists of an Archeon 30 pack and Pouch in both black and white. The latter can attach to the former for an equally compelling collaboration.

Bearing the same name, Osprey’s new collaboration with Carryology should prove just as indispensable to you, no matter how much of a disheveled demon you might become.

Dubbed the Fūjin capsule, it consists of two pieces — the Archeon 30 backpack and the Archeon Pouch — and while they pair perfectly, the former is particularly noteworthy. Here’s why.

Award-winning upgrade

When the two brands decided to team up, it didn’t take that long to decide which existing Osprey nameplate to max out.

After all, the Archeon 40L was fresh off a big win: it won 1st place in the 2024 Carry Awards for Best Carry-On Backpack

The new Archeon 30 is an EDC champ that is rugged enough for hiking, camping and other serious adventures.

For the Fūjin project they scaled down slightly, to the 30L form factor, which is a bit more practical for EDC.

That’s especially true considering that the Pouch can be seamlessly attached to the back if you need a bit more space and/or a modular pod for speedy side quests.

With this pack already being for its versatility and style, it fell to the design team to preserve those qualities while taking things up a notch.

It did so via a major material change plus improvements to the organization and carry comfort, rounded out by a truly special tribute to its namesake.

Better in every way

Let’s start with the material. While the previous main ingredient was no slouch — a PFAS-free DWR-treated 420D Robic nylon with ripstop — the new Archeon 30 transcends such traditional threads.

Instead, it’s made primarily of a unique material created six years ago by Canadians seeking to improve performance kites.

The Archeon 30 offers, yes, 30 liters of space and, as you can see, loads of organizational pockets and slots. The green-backed wave pattern is called “wind camo” and is unique to this pack.

Dubbed ALUULA, it’s stronger, more affordable and just a bit heavier than Dyneema. It also has a similar crinkly look that plays well across the new pack’s black and white treatments.

Storage-wise, organization gets perfected via discreet side pockets, a hidden side zipper that accesses the main compartment and additional interior stash pockets, including a lapstop sleeve.

Meanwhile the adjustable external straps serve as critical tiedowns for additional layers or other gear, lash points for multi-tools, water bottles and other EDC items and as a place to attach the Pouch.

A person wearing a blue shirt and multiple bracelets is holding open a white backpack with black zippers, revealing a green interior with a dotted pattern. The person is placing or removing a rectangular patch featuring a design of a mythical creature surrounded by clouds inside the backpack.
The patch bearing the Japanese wind god is Velcro-backed and therefore removable — though the only conceivable reason to do so would be to slap it on something equally awesome.

The carry itself is eased by AirSpeed suspension, Osprey’s award-winning system that maximizes both comfort and airflow so you can lug away without breaking a sweat.

Not to be forgotten, of course, is Fūjin himself. The ancient god, as fancifully imagined by renowned Japanese artist Kentaro Yoshida, floats on an embroidered Velcro morale patch.

You’ll see him every time you unzip the pack and don’t worry: just like you (in a manner of speaking), dude’s got his beloved wind bag.

Availability and pricing

The Osprey x Carryology Archeon 30 is available now for $500. The Archeon Pouch, meanwhile, costs $100.
