A Gentleman’s Knife This Affordable Has No Business Looking This Good

Stepping out of the shadows cast by its pricier big brothers, this sweet little folder hits all the right notes.

Most knife knerds are probably familiar with We Knife and Civivi, sibling brands that churn out a bevy of blades from their home base in Yangjiang, China’s knifemaking capital.

They probably also know that We Knife is the high-end label, while Civivi produces more budget-friendly fare.

What they may not be aware of is that this is, in fact, a three-headed monster, with the lesser-known Sencut producing even more affordable EDC options.

It just made its presence known with the Braxx, a pitch-perfect gentleman’s knife with a price point you can’t beat in 2026.

Real steel

One thing that is great about multi-tiered knife companies such as We Knife/Civivi/Sencut (not to mention Artisan Cutlery/CJRB and Kansept/Tenable) is that the best design ideas often trickle down to become more accessible.

For example, one of Kansept’s finest silhouettes, the Greg Schob-penned Fenrir, goes for as much as $358 from the flagship brand.

Meanwhile, the same silhouette can be had for a fraction of the price (literally 1/6th) from Tenable.

Obviously, the materials are not as premium as the price goes down, which is what stands out to me about the Braxx.

While it does not have a direct Civivi counterpart, at a starting price of just $41, it boasts a very respectable 3.12-inch drop-point blade made of (satin-finished or blacked-out) D2 steel.

While it’s far from a super steel, D2 is a dependable tool steel offering great wear resistance and edge retention, which helps compensate for the fact that it can be hard to sharpen.

It is certainly a cut above, say, 5Cr13MoV and other cheaper steels you may find in super-affordable knives.

Sneaky good

Beyond its blade, the rest of the knife impresses by keeping it simple rather than trying too hard.

The mechanism is a slip joint, paired as it often is with a nail nick in the blade for easy two-handed deployment.

It’s not as flash as a flipper, crossbar lock or button lock, and of course, it does not lock out when open, but for the vast majority of everyday tasks, these capabilities are more sizzle than steak.

And the Braxx still offers the fundamental pocket knife carry requirements: a lanyard hole and a reversible tip-up clip at the rear of the handle.

Speaking of the handle, its scales mount to sturdy steel liners and come in black G10, green canvas micarta and wood.

These range slightly in terms of weight, durability and aesthetic appeal, but especially with the price only ranging by five bucks, just pick your favorite and you’ll be fine.
