Snow Peak’s First Rooftop Tent Is Perfectly On-Brand and Long Overdue

At long last, the beloved Japanese brand brings decades of car-camping know-how to its debut RTT.

Snow Peak has long been synonymous with car camping.

Founded in 1958, the Japanese manufacturer specializes in high-end, thoughtfully designed glamping gear that prioritizes comfort over packability.

In that light, its first-ever rooftop tent feels both perfectly on-brand and long overdue.

All pumped up

The new RTT, dubbed the “Field Rise,” sets up in mere minutes thanks to an inflatable air frame that keeps the weight to a minimum.

Convenience aside, the pump-up nature also makes it compatible with a wide range of different vehicles, including those with low dynamic roof load ratings.

In true Snow Peak fashion, the Field Rise also comes with a dedicated six-foot tarp that creates a secondary shelter to the side of the vehicle — an ideal cover for the brand’s IGT camp kitchen.

But even without it set up, the interior of the tent features a small mud room area, where campers can take off their shoes without tracking dirt into the sleeping area.

Availability and pricing

Unfortunately, Snow Peak has yet to announce a firm release date for the Field Rise, or even whether the RTT will make its way to the US.

At the time of writing, the Field Rise is exclusively listed on the brand’s overseas website, where it costs 396,000 Japanese yen (approximately $2,522).

There’s also a new camp chair and table — both collaborations with Helinox — as well as packing cubes, soft coolers and an adventure duffel.
