Tracksmith’s First Trail Shoe Looks as Refined as It Does Capable

Endurance and elegance collide in the brand’s third shoe but the first designed specifically for trail running.

The trails aren’t just the next frontier of shoe design. They’re the Wild West.

The sheer variety of terrain, and distances, has all but eliminated the one-size-fits-all approach that governs innovation on the road and track.

In other words, even the little guys — such as Norda and Satisfy — can find novel ways into runners’ shoe rotations, all without the need to chase the latest technology and trends.

Tracksmith, the Boston-based brand founded in 2014, hopes it will be next.

Headlining the brand’s new Overland Collection of apparel and other gear, the Eliot Range represents only the third Tracksmith shoe in over a decade and the first designed specifically for trails.

Cut and run

Like the Eliot Racer released earlier this year, the new model features a drop-in supercritical midsole made from Pebax, supported by a snappy nylon plate that doubles as a shield against rocks and gravel underfoot.

The shoe also comes with a Vibram XS Trek Evo outsole, finished with a custom multi-surface lug pattern that Tracksmith claims was inspired by the “surfaces we know and love in New England.”

In other words, the Eliot Range is suitable for both gravel and singletrack, as well any roads runners might encounter on the way.

As for the upper, it’s here that Tracksmith decided to blaze its own trail, pushing the Eliot Range away from the pack.

Instead of using next-gen synthetic yarns, such as those found in Matryx, Tracksmith turned to its popular Brighton Base Layer for inspiration.

The brand equipped the Eliot Range with a Merino wool liner that works in conjunction with a ripstop woven upper that prioritizes comfort, breathability and a secure lockdown, all while keeping trail debris out.

To be clear, natural fibers are an odd but intriguing choice for a trail shoe in 2025. But it’s also one that reflects Tracksmith’s identity to date: a traditionalist merging old-school fabrics with modern-day performance.

Pricing and availability

Make no mistake. Premium materials come with a premium price tag.

The Tracksmith Eliot Range costs $240 — putting it above your average daily trainer but still less than the Norda 005 ($325) and Satisfy TheRocker ($280).

At launch, the shoe comes in two colorways. Both have the brand’s signature racing stripe adorned to the side.
