New York-based footwear brand Feit just released a line of Japanese-made knit accessories for the winter months. Each piece in the collection — made up of socks, knit caps, scarves and more — utilizes natural wool and comes in two colorways: Black and Undyed Natural.
While the pieces have standard, understated designs, there is a high level of craftsmanship present. The socks are made on rare hand-linking machines. Because the majority of these machines were abandoned after the development of mass-production, a number had to be refurbished to produce these socks. But, the hand-linked toes and heels are noticeably more comfortable and durable.
The beanies are without a doubt the stand-out pieces in the collection. Designed by a Japanese master milliner who studied hatmaking under legendary Parisian hatmaker Jean Barthet in the ‘60s, the beanies are made on hand-knitted machines in a small workshop that specializes in wool knit hats. The attention to detail and quality materials result in a hat that has a soft and relaxed handfeel not found in mass-produced beanies.
While the price-point of this collection is noticeably high — a pair of socks costs $50 and the Standard Beanie goes for $150– the attention to detail and quality of each piece are inimitable.
