If you’re an avid hiker who lives in the city, it can sometimes be difficult to maintain your trailside aesthetic in urban environments. After all, you don’t want to wear out your favorite hiking shoes pounding pavement. (Save that utility for the trails.)

The Adidas Grisedale SPZL pulls archival trail-ready details from the past and brings them to a modern city shoe.

Lucky for you, Adidas just dropped a special-edition sneaker that blends rich, archival hiking style with everyday comfort.

Take a hike

The Grisedale SPZL could easily be confused for a hiking shoe, but it’s actually designed for sidewalk strides.

The new release is part of the Adidas SPZL line, the brand’s sub-label that reworks and reimagines classic adidas Originals archive designs under the watchful eye of Gary Aspden.

This capable shoe is the latest example of how pulling from the archives can result in styles that feel thoroughly modern, while at the same time comfortably familiar.

The Grisedale SPZL strides that line between nostalgia and modernity pretty effortlessly, thanks to its rich, heritage-inspired leather and suede upper, its antique-style lace hooks and contrast stitching, and embroidered details on sides.

That old-school styling feels fresh thanks to the shoe’s durable rubber outsole, as well as its modern Cold Cement construction methods, which involves bonding the upper of the shoe to its sole using adhesives at low temperatures, without heat.

This modern innovation allows for the use of materials like EVA foam and mesh, which would melt if exposed to heat.

The regular fit of the Grisedale SPZL contributes to its everyday wearability, and its Aurora Ivy/Core Black/Trace Khaki colorway makes it feel simultaneously trail-ready and city-styled.

Availability and pricing

The Grisedale SPZL is coming soon to Adidas’s official website, and will retail for $180. The style is available now via the Adidas Confirmed app, which can be downloaded for free.
