It took New Balance 22 years to update the 991, but the running-turned-dad shoe didn’t lose its iconic appeal when the v2 debuted in 2023.
While the Abzorb cushioning was upgraded to a full-length FuelCell, the 991v2 kept the “Made in UK” provenance and only made minor tweaks to the aesthetic that included a cleaner overall looks and smoother transitions between upper panels.

It’s safe to say that the 991v2 is a contender for the most streetwear-friendly New Balance in the catalog, but this latest variant might make it a retro king.
Some backstory
Back in 2019, New Balance celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1500 with the brand-new 1530 model.
The original 1500 helped define the modern “Made in UK” aesthetic and the 1530 remixed the ‘80s styling with more modern tech found in the 99X lineup.
