The hardshell carry-on is a battleground for countless brands.

You have your classics (Samsonite, Tumi); the direct-to-consumer crowd (Away, Monos); and, as of the past couple years, up-and-coming EDC darlings (Aer, Bellroy).

Now, Nike is ready to show the world its take on a classic carry-on suitcase, and the result is actually pretty intriguing.

Air time

Arriving later this year, the suitcase largely follows the form factor of more-established brands in the space.

That means it features four rotating wheels, a telescoping handle, TSA-approved lock and sleek, incognito colorway with only a simple Swoosh on the front.

However, a closer look at the back reveals the headlining feature.

Here, Nike repurposed the outsole pattern of the Air Force 1 as a design motif, which nods to the fact that the iconic shoe gets its name from an airplane.

Similar to other hardshell suitcases, such as those from Away, the inside of the bag is broken up into two compartments. Only here, the nylon barriers features the words “thank you for flying nike air.”

What’s more, the carry-on comes with a sticker pack, should you need to mask the occasional scuff.

Availability and pricing

Nike has yet to officially announce pricing of the carry-on suitcase, which measures 22 inches, but it’s expected to be joined by two larger bags when it releases later this fall. Stay tuned for updates in the near future.
