Of all the designs that make up the Oakley archive, those that belong to the X-Metal series seem to hit fans the hardest.

Debuting in the late 1990s with the Romeo, a pair made famous by its role in one of the opening sequences of Mission: Impossible 2, the X-Metal collection went dark in 2012 due to the the complexity and cost of manufacturing.

Now, more than a decade later, the X-Metal returns in earnest as part of Travis Scott’s first collection since joining the brand as its so-called “chief visionary officer.”

And headlining the drop is not the Romeo but its streamlined sister pair, playfully named the Juliet, which first came out in 1999.

True to form

True to the original design, the titanium alloy frame consists of 25 individual parts, while also bringing back its signature Y2K-era eartips.

That said, the release does pave new ground for Oakley, as it represents the first time the brand has ever assigned a serialized system to one of its products.

Available in two finishes, “Prizm Violet Polar” and “Prizm Snow Black,” the Oakley MUZM X-Metal Juliet is limited to 100 pieces, with each one individually numbered on the earstem.

Pricing has yet to be revealed but it likely matters very little to the Oakley faithful, who will pay whatever it takes to add the Juliet to their collections.
