Timberland may be synonymous with its well-known and beloved yellow boots, but the brand also makes workwear-inspired apparel, ranging from outerwear to everyday essentials.

The popular American outdoor lifestyle brand recently re-issued two jackets from its archives, and one of them is reimagined in a totally unexpected — and luxurious — new material.

The Welch Mountain Leather Puffer Jacket is an evolution of the Welch Mountain Puffer Jacket, which initially entered Timberland’s lineup as part of the brand’s 1997 holiday collection.

While the ’90s version was built with hardworking, outdoor-appropriate materials, 2026’s lifestyle take is far more luxury-oriented.

That’s due to its new soft Nappa sheepskin leather, which replaces the waterproofed cotton/nylon blend outer shell of the original.

The new jacket is insulated with 600-gram, 100 percent polyester synthetic down.

The combo provides enough warmth (and style) for the winter months, but is not nearly as rugged as its predecessor.

The new jacket is all-black and hyperminimal, which is also a departure from the color-blocked aesthetic of the original version.

The supple leather is the primary contributor to the sky-high price tag; the Welch Mountain Leather Puffer Jacket retails for a cool $1,100.

This makes it one of the most expensive jackets Timberland has ever released, but that doesn’t seem to be a deterrent for fans: as of this writing, the limited-edition jacket has already sold out.

The Welch Mountain Leather Puffer Jacket is accompanied by another archival release, the Granite State Waterproof Rain Jacket, which retails for $270 and is still available for purchase.

The Granite State is built to embrace the elements, thanks to its 100 percent recycled nylon, waterproof shell.

Availability and pricing

As mentioned above, the Welch Mountain Leather Puffer Jacket has already sold out. For now, it looks like the only way to score one will be through the resale market.
