If you’re a big fan of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, and you value ruggedness over beauty, rejoice: you can preorder the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active smartphone today. Samsung commonly releases tougher models of its Galaxy smartphones; see last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7 Active ($250). The S8 Active is a more rugged version of the Galaxy S8 with shatterproof glass and a shockproof bumper around the bezel.
There are other differences, too. The S8 Active is heavier (208 grams vs. the S8’s 155 grams) and has a bigger battery (4000mAh vs. the S8’s 3000mAh); it also has a slightly less high-resolution display (506ppi vss the S8’s 570ppi) and will be more expensive ($850 vs. the S8’s $720). Other than that, the S8 Active and S8 share most of the same important specs, including the same processors, front- and rear-facing cameras, RAM (4GB) and storage (64GB). Both smartphones are water- and dust-resistant, too.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is available for preorder today, but only for AT&T customers. It should be available for other carriers in the near future. You’ll be able to find it stores on August 11, in two colors: Meteor Gray or Titanium Gold.
