HTC announced the Vive Pro earlier this year. It’s an upgraded version of its Vive virtual reality headset, featuring higher-res displays (1400 x 1600 pixels versus the current Vive’s 1080 x 1200 pixels) and it can use the existing Vive’s system (same controllers, same tracking beacons). Essentially you’re just swapping headsets to get the pixel upgrade, which is a little cheaper than buying the whole kit and caboodle. And today HTC finally revealed the Vive Pro’s pricing and availability info. You can preorder it today for $799 and you can expect to get it by April 5.
HTC also dropped the price of its original Vive bundle by $100 — it now costs $499 — so if you’ve been thinking about going in on virtual reality, consider this an extra incentive. And here’s another thing to think on: if you order an HTC Vive Pro headset before June 3, you’ll get a free six-month trial to Viveport, HTC’s subscription service.
