The Honeywell Smart Home Security Base Station ($350) is a different from other popular home security cameras. Yes, it comes with many of the same features — 1080p video resolution, facial recognition, motion alerts, night vision, two-way talk, 145-degree field of view, 24 hours of free cloud storage — but it’s also a smart speaker integrated with Alexa. So, you can ask it questions or have it stream music the same way as you would with an Amazon Echo. (The Amazon Cloud Cam can’t even do that.) And it acts as a smart home hub that can connect Honeywell’s other smart home devices. Additionally, the Base Station is both a plug-and-play and portable device — you can plug it into the wall or, since it comes with batteries, you can move it around the house like you would with one of Netgear’s Arlo smart cameras.
Up to this point, the Honeywell Smart Home Security Base Station has only been available to Indigogo backers — but now anybody can preorder it on Honeywell’s website. For those interested, you can actually get a pretty good bundle deal with the Base Station.
In addition to the Base Station, the “Super Smart Home Security Bundle” comes with two window/door access sensors, a T5 smart thermostat, a C1 security camera and a water leak and freeze detector — a normally $809 value that you can snag for $599.
