When you can download music onto your smartwatch, it makes it easy to grab a pair of Bluetooth headphones and go out. No phone needed. But when your streaming service doesn’t match up to what the tracker can carry, it can be a bit of a boon to your everyday run. Garmin wants to change that with its Spotify integration. As the most popular music streaming service in the world, it’s a step in the right direction for Garmin users.
Before you break out in celebration, the caveat is that for now it only works on the Fenix 5 Plus series, and you’ll need a Spotify premium account. With both, you can download and access your favorite playlists on the watch offline. So if you have a Fenix 5 Plus or Fenix 5X Plus, you’re in luck. If not, you’ll have to stay tuned to see if Garmin rolls it out to more of its top-performing watches (like the Forerunner series which is extremely popular among runners). To get started, download the app in the Garmin IQ store.
