Sony VAIO Duo 11

Duo more

Looking to chip away at the iPad’s death grip on the market through dual functionality and some serious Windows 8 guts, the Sony VAIO Duo 11 represents yet another foray into the field of computer meets Transformer.

It’s no wannabe: powered by an Ultrabook-level Intel processor (your choice of i3, i5, or i7) and an Intel Graphics 4000 card, the Duo 11 is meatier than the similar Samsung Slate. While its tidy 11.6-inch 1080p HD touchscreen is eminently portable, the Duo 11 still packs enough features to make it a practical productivity tool for the working stiff: a solid state drive (128 or 256 GB), 4 to 8 GB RAM, near field communications, GPS capability and front and rear HD cameras. The digitizer stylus complements the touchscreen and handwriting recognition software without lag. Add I/O ports for USB 3.0, VGA out, HDMI out and stereo speakers and you also have a portable that’s ready to play. The Duo 11 hits stores around the end of October — until then, you’ll have to stick to baseball for exciting sliders.
