The Leica M is a new flagship rangefinder from the venerable photography brand that carries the torch from the Leica M9. Its biggest upgrade lies in a new 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor that’s designed to work specifically with Leica R-series lenses, maintaining the same luscious color characteristics while boasting better low-light performance and power management compared to the M9’s aging CCD sensor. The same Maestro processor found in the company’s S SLR rigs has also been added, making the M the first in the rangefinder line capable of shooting 1080p video (welcome to 2013, boys).

Outside, a 3-inch, 920,000 pixel Gorilla Glass display provides two new composing modes including “Live View Zoom” and “Live View Peaking”, in addition to the traditional viewfinder. Naturally, no serious Leica rangefinder would be complete without a retrolicious machined metal chassis wrapped in leather, and this modern marvel is no exception. No official release date has been announced as of yet beyond early 2013, but at an expected retail price of $6,950, we doubt your wallet is in a rush, no matter how fast your heart is currently racing.
