When I first came across the AeroStrap, I admit I was a bit skeptical.

This little corded accessory essentially turns your wireless earbuds back into wired ones … what’s the point??

Four pairs of white wireless earbuds with colored neck straps in black, white, pink, and blue, set against a blue mountain background.
The AeroStrap comes in four fun colors: black, white, pink and blue.

However, after testing them out with a friend, I have to say that they could indeed save you from a very costly accident.

Maybe even better, they make an already excellent product even more convenient to use.

There’s a strap for that

To better appreciate the AeroStrap, it helps to know the back story.

The product was invented by a couple of Illinois high school buddies, Colin and Griffin, after one of them lost an AirPod out in the wild.

The AeroStrap’s inventors, Griffin and Colin, began developing the product in an Illinois garage last year.

Many of us know the brutal anguish of such an occurrence, because having one AirPod is almost like having no AirPods, and it’s especially painful if you shelled out $250 for AirPods Pro 3.

Their solution feels like something only teenagers could come up with, because they intrinsically realize falling back on wired buds (something they may not have ever even used) is ultimately a regression to an inferior product.

(I mean, did you know AirPods Pro 3 have a built-in heart-rate sensor? It’s true!)

In other words, the only logical move was to bring the biggest strength of wired buds, their inherent hard-to-lose-ability, to the latest tech.

That’s what the AeroStrap offers: a sweat-, water and cold-resistant silicone retention cord that ensures you won’t lose your AirPods during activities such as running, biking, snow and motor sports.

You simply insert your AirPods (or any similar wireless buds with little stalks) into the two little cuffs on either end. They have some stretch but nonetheless hold the stalks very tightly.

The AeroStrap comes in a box at retail and a little sleeve if you order online. It’s currently available in more than 10 locations around Illinois and they have shipped over 300 units.

Like Croakies for personal audio, the strap keeps your buds securely with you, not only during movement but at the in-between times.

For example, I would have loved to have an AeroStrap before I got a motorcycle helmet with integrated audio, as my earbuds used to fall out (sometimes dangerously close to sewer grates) every time I took a helmet off.

The same definitely applies to ski and snowboard lids, because God forbid you drop a completely white AirPod into fluffy pow.

Arguably the coolest feature of the AeroStrap is how it magnetizes the two buds together around your neck.

All that said, as you’ll see in the video below, my buddy Winter and I discovered the coolest aspect of the AeroStrap is a bit more everyday than it is extreme

Each end of the cord also packs a built-in magnet. That means when you take the buds out, you don’t have to immediately stash them in the case; you can just let them hang like a little necklace around your neck.

There’s Aero Assurance, of course.

“If you lose your AirPods while using Aero, we’ll replace both the strap and your AirPods,” Colin explains over email. “We’re that confident in the product.”

Everyday convenience plus peace of mind? That could add up to the smartest $10 you spend this year.
