For years, Logitech’s MX Master line of wireless mice has been regarded as the “best of the best” among creative professionals. They’ve struck the right balance of comfortable design, precise controls, buttery-smooth movement, solid battery life, and features galore.

Since 2022, the MX Master 3S has topped many review publications’ “Best Wireless Mouse” lists. But with Logitech introducing a new flagship MX Master mouse, you can probably expect that to change.

Logitech isn’t messing too much with what is clearly a winning formula, as the company’s new flagship, the MX Master 4, is quite similar to its predecessor, the MX Master 3S.

The two wireless mice are essentially identical, with the same ergonomic shape catered to right-handers and feature the same ultra-quiet buttons and electromagnetic scroll wheel. They also have the same 8K DPI sensor and are rated as having the same “70-day” battery life.

Haptics, baby

The most significant change with the MX Master 4 is the introduction of haptic feedback for the first time.

Logitech integrated sensors into the thumb rest so that you feel subtle vibrations when you scroll, select, and perform various tasks, such as moving a photo/item/document into a folder or app (like Photoshop or Lightroom). You’ll get a haptic response when the battery is low, too.

You’ll be able to adjust the intensity of these haptic feedbacks via Logitech’s Options+ software. If you’re not into you, you can also turn it off entirely.

While the haptic feedback is definitely the headline new feature of the MX Master 4, Logitech did change a few other things that might encourage you to upgrade from the MX Master 3S.

The MX Master 4 has a new textured plastic finish on the top, instead of rubber, which should make it even grippier and potentially more durable. On the bottom, there are larger PTFE feet promises to deliver a slightly smoother experience.

And Logitech gave the MX Master 4 a new high-performance chip and new optimized antenna placement, which should ensure a stronger Bluetooth connection.

Like its predecessor, the MX Master 4 comes in two different versions for Mac and PC. Each mouse can connect via Bluetooth or with the included USB-C receiver. (This is one small difference, as the previous PC version came with a USB-A receiver.)
