Citizen’s New Solar-Powered Dive Watch Is a Sea Monster

It’s truly monstrous: 52.5mm diameter and 21.4mm thick.

If you’re worried Rolex’s 43mm Sea-Dweller is too teeny-tiny for your wrist, here’s another option: the new (deep breath) Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m. It comes in at a truly monstrous 52.5mm diameter and 21.4mm thick. That’s chunky.

As you probably figured out, this bad boy can handle water pressure up to 1,000 meters. Though Citizen has achieved that before in a mechanical watch, the NH6931-06E, this is the first time the brand has made such a deep-diver using its lauded solar-powered Eco-Drive movement. The case is made from “Super Titanium,” and the bezel features a locking mechanism.

Citizen has pursued the goal of creating a 1,000-meter Eco-Drive watch for some time, and it hasn’t been easy. For example, the crystal and gasket are so complex, Citizen can only produce a few dozen a day. The watch will retail for $2,300.
