Oris's Retro Dive Watch Is Looking Pretty Modern

A new limited edition of the popular Divers Sixty-Five has a 42mm case and foregoes the vintage look.

Oris's Divers Sixty-Five watches characteristically have a retro theme and were ahead of the current trend of reduced diameters. A new limited edition, however, produced for the retailer Topper, reverses the concept, seeing the popular dive-style watch in a more contemporary-feeling 42mm case and forgoing the usual design cues meant to evoke an aged, vintage look. It almost looks (gasp!) modern.

The underlying design maintains some funky, distinctly Sixties-inspired elements such as the thin bezel and quirky style of the cardinal hour markers. It's perhaps closer to a modern reinterpretation than a vintage reissue, to use common watch brand parlance. It's also got all the expected modern specs, including sapphire crystal (in the vintage boxy style) and is powered by the Sellita SW200 automatic movement. Like other Divers Sixty-Five watches, it's less water-resistant than many modern divers at only 100m, but should still survive getting wet just fine.

As a limited edition for the US retailer, only 165 examples of the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Topper Edition will be produced, and for each sale Topper will donate to a local museum. Available on a steel bracelet, you can pre-order it online now for $2,450.
