If there’s one watch brand that needs no introduction, it’s G-Shock. The workhorse timepieces are widely worn and loved across the horological universe. From the most respected watch enthusiasts like Pharrell and John Mayer to everyday active professionals who require an indestructible watch to wear on the job, G-Shock is the rare brand that really does make watches for everyone.

The new GAB2100 is the next evolution of the G-Shock GA2100, also known lovingly as the “CasiOak” for its octagonal case shape some say mimics another classic watch design, but in reality it was born from G-Shock's ORIGIN DW5000C and AW500 from the early 80’s. The CasiOak is often thought of as the watch that pulls people into the G-Shock universe. It features an analog/digital display and with a lug-to-lug measurement of 48.5 mm and a 45.4mm case width, it's one of the most wearable G-Shocks out there.

It would have been easy for G-Shock to leave the GA2100 alone and let sales roll in. Instead, the trusted brand has spun up the new GAB2100 as an update to its much-loved predecessor and added a few design features that certainly are appreciated. While it still also employs a Carbon Core Guard structure, it’s now solar-powered by G-Shock’s Tough Solar system, meaning it can be charged by light, and has 7 months battery life on a full-charge. That’s huge. Second, the GAB2100 includes Bluetooth connectivity, making it easy to set the watch with the help of the Casio Watches app. Finally, there are a whole bunch of new colorways.

Perhaps those vibrant new colorways are what pulled you in. The new GAB2100 is available in four different colors: yellow, green, blue and black/grey. G-Shock has always been masterful when it comes to color offerings, but it raised the bar here. The yellow, green and blue pay homage to the first colors G-Shock ever released on their iconic DW5600.

About that solar-powered battery… Even though the battery life of a G-Shock is, frankly, incredible, the addition of Tough Solar just makes this watch even more impressive. (Anyone who wears a solar watch knows how great it is to just never ever have to think about getting a new battery). Combining that with Smartphone Link, Casio has made it even easier to wear and enjoy this watch.

Watches like the CasiOak really are in a league of their own. Whether you’re looking for something stealthy, something classic, something durable, or something that screams a little louder, you’ll be able to find it here.
