Since its debut seven years ago, G-Shock’s 2100 line has seen an embarrassment of riches when it comes to new colorways. However, unlike some of the brand’s other models, these “CasiOak” variants have largely featured new color combinations rather than cohesive designs built around a unifying theme.

That’s why the latest take on G-Shock’s modern lifestyle icon feels so special.

Not your average CasiOak

For the task, the Japanese watchmaker reunites with LA-based fashion label C2H4, known for its experimental and science-inspired designs. The duo takes the 2100 and revamps it with a retro-futuristic aesthetic from top to bottom.

Built on the same classic CasiOak platform, the new GA-2100C2H426-8A features a translucent resin bezel and strap in a cloudy gray. Nevertheless, this is still a G-Shock after all, and remains shock resistant and water resistant to 200m.

What really sets this Space Age-inspired watch apart from the pack is the dial. Not only does it match the case but completes the motif with a stunning metallic silver plating and a brushed finish with vapor deposition.

The metallic effect extends to the hands here as well. Meanwhile, the reverse LCD digital display appears to have a blue backdrop instead of black.

Sticking to the Theme (Building)

This timepiece takes significant inspiration from a mid-century modern design icon, the Theme Building at the Los Angeles International Airport, which became a paragon of the “googie” movement when it was built in the 1960s. The structure is etched into the watch’s caseback as well.

It should also be pointed out that the Theme Building served as muse for C2H4’s first G-Shock collab last year, based on the 5600.

A major selling point will also be the watch’s packaging, with this bean-shaped retro-futuristic case.

Lastly, the new Space Age 2100 comes packaged in a remarkable new case that looks straight out of the ‘60s. It recalls the Panasonic TR-005 “Orbitel” television from that era.
