Shinola’s newest watch is an exercise in simplicity. Or rather, making a complex movement feel simple. That’s the wonderful contradiction of the Canfield Sport: it’s powered by a quartz movement with an annual calendar and a chronograph function (Shinola says it’s the most-complicated movement its employees ever assembled). But the dial looks clean and well-sorted, with the three chronograph sub-dials perfectly spaced to make room for the Arabic numerals and the month and day apertures legible but discrete. Meanwhile, the bezel surrounding the dial is made from ceramic, while the case is available in either 40mm or 45mm diameters. All in all, it’s an attractive design that still provides the wearer with plenty of utility.
