Italian micro-brand Unimatic, the brainchild of industrial designers Giovanni Moro and Simone Nunziatom, has been making beautiful, minimalist dive watches since 2015. Their designs are produced in limited-edition runs and often sell out fairly quickly, so their releasing of four new models at once is particularly noteworthy (really two new models, each of which is available either in steel or black DLC finishes).
The U1-E, U1-EN, U1-EM, and U1-EMN models all stem from the Modello Uno line and share the same case design features (40mm case, 120-click unidirectional dive bezel, screw-down crown, 300m of water resistance, domed sapphire crystal), while differences between the two sets of models are visible in case finishing, date wheel use/implementation and dial design. All feature the automatic caliber Seiko NH35A beating at 21600bph with hacking seconds.
The U1-E (limited to 600 pcs, approximately $610) and U1-EN (limited to 300 pcs, approximately $726) feature dials with thick indices and segmented hands coated in Super-Luminova BGW09; a sapphire bezel insert with 60-minute hash marks and lumed 5-minute markings ensure visibility under water for divers, and a subtle date display at 6 o’clock adds to the utility of the watch. The U1-EN is the black DLC version, and each watch ships with the Unimatic V-Shaped Nato and black silicon dive strap.
The U1-EM (limited to 400 pcs, approximately $610) and U1-EMN (limited to 200 pcs, approximately $726) change things up with a stealthy look – the dials of both the steel and black DLC models are blacked out with hollow, outlined indices and less lume application (in this case green Super LumiNova) and lumed, segmented hands. The bezels on these two are still 120-click but feature only a lumed pip and no other timing hash marks, and both watches ship on a made-in-Italy Horween shell cordovan leather strap, and also come with the new fluoroelastomer black nato (really a singe-pass, but a dope-looking single-pass at that).
