Vintage Seiko is a seemingly never-ending source of incredible mechanical wristwatches with eminently affordable price tags. Whether you’re looking for a time-only dress watch, a complicated chronograph or a robust diver, Seiko probably produced a timepiece for you, and chances are there’s still a healthy supply of said watch on the vintage market. Here are some favorites for sale right now, each of which costs less than $1,000.
Seiko Lord Marvel 5740-0010
What we like: The Lord Marvel line was Seiko’s solution to the quest for improved accuracy in a hand-wound movement. Indeed, the caliber 5740A beats at 36,000 bph, making this 23-jewel movement one of the precursors to the brand’s Calibre 44, later found in the King Seiko Chronometer.
From the seller: Overall, the watch is in excellent condition. Dial and hands are in excellent condition. The watch case appears to be absolutely unpolished. The recently serviced watch is running strong and keeping very accurate time. New, ‘safari’ calfskin leather strap with stainless steel pin buckle by JP Menicucci.
Seiko Automatic Weekdater 6206-8040
What we like: With its clean, minimalist dial with day-date display and automatic, 26-jewel movement, the Weekdater is emblematic of Seiko’s beautiful 1960s design. A 36mm stainless steel case and screw-down case back round out the feature set on this timeless watch.
From the seller: Overall in great condition. Case and crystal have some scratches.
Seiko Champion J13040 JDM
What we like: There’s no denying that some of the most beautiful time-only watches were produced in the 1950s and 1960s, and this Seiko Champion is no exception. Like the other two watches featured this week, this model has a simple dial with polished steel hands and indices and minimal text, but a pop of blue in the waterproof rating provides a welcome respite from the otherwise monotone color palette.
From the seller: Watch is running exceptionally well and keeps time within specifications. Watch has been cleaned and crystal has been polished. Movement is clean and does not show any corrosion. Band has been replaced with new 20mm black leather band. Dial has a few imperfections which can be seen in photos.
