Omega has announced a limited edition Seamster dedicated to New York and exclusive to the City’s boutiques. As if straight off a Mad Men set, the new Omega Seamaster New York Edition captures a certain mid-century 1960s style that is familiar but difficult to effectively recreate — at least as nicely as Omega has done here.
The dial’s thin, leafy hands and angular indices lend it a dressy quality, while the curved dial in a sunburst gradient gray drive home the retro inspiration. Omega did a similar vintage-style Seamaster with a slightly different execution for Venice, so to make this more specific to New York City, the case back has an engraving of famous New York landmarks done in the style of a skyline view.
The engraving curves along the edge of a sapphire crystal display window revealing the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 automatic movement, which is packed with fantastic Omega technology. (It’s resistant to magnetic fields to 15,000 gauss, uses the brand’s Co-Axial escapement with silicon hairspring, has a power reserve of 55 hours, and is beautifully finished). The Seamaster New York Edition should wear handsomely at 39.5mm in steel, is water-resistant to 60m, and is limited to 399 numbered pieces from Omega’s two New York boutiques at a price of $7,600.
