G-Shock watches were at one time primarily meant for people working in tough environments, before their modern association with pop culture and street fashion. Current collections like the Gravitymaster, designed for pilots, continue to have that serious, professional focus — though they work equally well for those who simply like a tough, bold watch with a lot of functionality. The new Casio G-Shock Gravitymaster GWRB1000X-1A offers all this along with a dial and monocoque case made entirely from carbon.
What is a monocoque case, you ask? It’s one that’s made of a single piece of material for improved integrity, rather than the multiple-piece construction of most watch cases that utilize at least a separate piece for the case back. Here, the bezel and dial are also carbon fiber, a very light and strong material. (Titanium is used in other places and has similar properties). As this is one of G-Shock’s higher-end models south of the luxury-priced MR-G line, it also includes premium features such as the use of sapphire crystal.
In addition to standard G-Shock functionality and durability features, the Gravitymaster GWRB1000X-1A has Tough Solar (batteries charged by light) and updates the time automatically via bluetooth or radio signals. Even the resin band features a carbon fiber insert. Measuring a substantial 50.1mm by 46.4mm by 16.9mm, the Casio G-Shock Gravitymaster Carbon Monocoque GWRB1000X-1A is available now for a price of $1,000.
