Product collaboration culture is hot, and some of the most interesting examples are those which involve artists of lesser-known genres. Timex has just introduced a series of its Scout field watch that is just that, incorporating designs from Polynesian tattoo traditions as envisioned by Hawaiian tattoo artist Keone Nunes.

In four versions, the patterns are reflected in the dials, on the straps, and as the spear-tip-like shapes of the angular indices. The dials each feature the koa’e ‘ula symbol, based on the red-tailed tropicbird which has traditional significance in Polynesian culture as representing “protection and courage.”

The underlying Timex Scout watch measures 40mm wide and 11mm thick in steel, with a reasonable water-resistance of 50m, and powered by a quartz movement. On a NATO-style leather strap incorporating embossed Polynesian designs, each version features a different combination of dial color and designs and a retail price of $109.
