Relatively young watch manufacturer Maurice Lacroix has been generating a lot of interest of late with its new collections, and the Pontos S Diver is no exception, standing out in a crowded field of me-too pieces. At turns retro and modern, the Diver, which builds upon the success of the Pontos S Chronograph from last year, presents a uniquely attractive face to its lucky wearer.
To say that the dive watch segment is competitive is an understatement. Yet the Pontos S Diver sets itself apart by virtue of its vintage Compressor-style case and internal timing bezel. The clean dial, bereft of numerals and available in either black or an elegant off-white opaline, features applied index and laser-cut hands, which are generously lumed for nighttime visibility; the case is crafted from stainless steel and comes replete with a helium escape valve and a full 600 meters of water resistance. From these specifications, it’s clear that Maurice Lacroix intends for this watch to get wet. Still, when paired with the leather NATO-type strap (or a stainless steel bracelet), it’s also obvious that the company understands most of its clients will be of the desk-diving variety.
