Dress watch dials don’t more classic than this.

After slowly building momentum over the past few years, stone dials exploded onto the watch scene in 2025. What started as a buzzy trend among luxury watchmakers was quickly emulated by mid-tier and affordable brands.

Among the mountain of stone dials released this year, few examples priced under $1,000 have executed the trend with the tact and sophistication of the AC2 Volcán by Anders & Co.

The Swedish boutique watchmaker Anders & Co. has only released two collections, but both are steeped in high-brow watch history. The AC2 blends a streamlined, mirror-polished tonneau case shape with dauphine hands and sharp, beveled “obus” indices borrowed from the  Patek Philippe Calatrava.

The design is clean and well-finished to a degree that is rare in the affordable watch market, which is to say that the AC2 Volcán appears to cost several times more than it actually does.

Adding six new eye-catching stone dials to that impeccable formula enhances the luxurious appearance. The new line features turquoise, charoite, rubellite, aventurine and red agate.

Each watch comes on a quick-release black leather strap embossed with an alligator texture and fastened with a polished steel pin buckle. I can’t think of a better strap to complement both the case and dials at this price.

The one outlier of the group is the red agate dial, which replaces the obus indices with Eastern Arabic numerals.

Stone cold classic

The golden rule of designing a stone dial watch is to keep it simple. Anders & Co. nailed the assignment by relying on a couple of tried-and-true dress watch features.

As mentioned above, the dial draws heavily from the Calatrava, which many consider to be the grandfather of modern dress watches. From Grand Seiko to Longines, it is a look that works every time, and its broad spacing is particularly well-suited to a stone dial.

Another notable dial detail is the lack of a seconds hand. Anderson & Co. used a Miyota quartz movement to help keep the price down. Quartz prejudices aside, if you’re building a sans-seconds dress watch, it just makes more sense to go electric.

Thanks primarily to Cartier, I’m a huge fan of dress watches with only hour and minute hands. It’s the peak of refinement, and if you’re wearing a proper dress watch, you have no need to be in a hurry.

Razor sharp

Anders & Co. selected the particular Caliber 9T22 quartz movement from Miyota due to its ultra-thin size. It accommodates the AC2 Volcán’s 5.6mm case height, which nails another luxury watch trend of 2025 thanks to its compact size.

The 37mm polished steel tonneau case has gently curved lugs that hug the wrist, creating an ever-tighter silhouette against the wrist.

All six stone dials produce an alluring contrast, setting the brilliant colors and intricate textures against the graceful minimalism of the sharp case and classic dial arrangement.

Availability and price

The Anders & Co. AC2 Volcán is available now from Anders & Co. for $627, except for the red agate dial with Eastern Arabic numerals, which costs $715.

While a specific piece count is not given for the new stone dial line, the brand notes that none of them will be reproduced once they are sold out.
