Luminox is no stranger to crafting hardcore tactical timepieces. After all, the brand routinely works with Navy SEALs and other service members to design its watches.

However, its latest is special for a couple of reasons. Not only is the Luminox x Volition America 3250 Steel Series a style the brand doesn’t often employ, but its design is imbued with military inspiration and a portion of its sale proceeds directly benefits service members and their families.

Military pedigree

First, let’s talk about the style. The Volition America 3250 Steel Series is a field watch. While this isn’t the only field watch the brand has produced — the Atacama Field watch is part of its permanent collection — it is one of the rarer styles in Luminox’s catalog.

As Luminox specializes in military-tough timepieces, its expertise translates brilliantly into this style. That said, this is not precisely a traditional take on a field watch.

For instance, it features a fairly traditional stainless steel case paired with a Carbonox rotating dive timer bezel, which is brand’s signature carbon-based material.

This choice is somewhat unusual, as classic field watches often eschew bezels entirely. That said, a dive timer, used for elapsed time, does have useful field applications, like maintaining a precise schedule.

What’s a little more out of left field for Luminox is the watch’s strap. Instead of rubber or metal, this watch has an OD green textile strap. However, that’s a nod to classic field watches and pays homage to military flight suits.

American armor, Swiss heart

One of the most crucial elements of a genuine military-ready field watch is its movement. A reliable movement means you can count on the watch to keep precise time — an essential for military operations.

As quartz is one of the most reliably accurate types of movements, it’s a good thing Luminox employed one such movement. Inside the stainless steel case, users will find a Swiss-made Ronda 715 quartz movement.

Other useful elements include the brand’s signature 25-year lume on the hour markers and hands, an antireflective sapphire crystal, a 200-meter water resistance rating and both 12- and 24-hour dial markings.

Perhaps most importantly, a portion of the watch’s proceeds go toward the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides educational scholarships to the families of fallen and disabled heroes.
