The Coolest Affordable Field Watch Gets Even More Wearable

It’s not like it was uncomfortable before, either.

Serica started out as a field watch brand, and though the French independent brand has ventured out to make outstanding divers, GMTs and dress watches, you could easily argue that the field watch remains Serica‘s bread and butter.

The Ref. 6190 Field Chronometer is the brand’s most expansive collection, and it’s always been quite wearable at 38mm across and just 10.4mm thick.

But it can always be more wearable and elegant, as Serica’s new Field Chronometer, the Ref. 7505, proves.

Not just a smaller case

The most obvious update the 7505 makes to the 6190 is the case, which is considerably smaller and thinner, clocking in at a vintage-like 35mm across, 9.6mm thick and only 41.5mm lug-to-lug. But the more elegant proportions are far from the only update here.

The case is entirely new, with updated lugs that are no longer in the twisted lyre style for which Serica has become known. Instead, the chamferless lugs are curved on the inside to better integrate into the bracelet, and the mid case is now mirror-polished rather than brushed.

The distinct, broad fixed bezel keeps its vertical brushing across the top and polished sides, but it now features four polished spheres set at the cardinal points, visually extending the dial to aid in legibility. The case keeps its 200m water resistance, and you still have the option of positioning the screw-down crown at either 3:00 or 9:00.

There are three enamel dial options for the 7505, two of which boast a new design. These two “Minute Critical Dials” feature Arabic markings every 10 minutes on the outer edge of the minute track, and are available in Black or Olive Green enamel. The third option is the bicolor enamel TXD tuxedo dial borrowed from the 6190, which, like its larger twin, features hand-applied indices.

The bracelet is Serica’s familiar Bonklip, but it’s been completely redesigned for this watch. The end links are now curved to match those new lugs, the links are more refined, there’s a more dramatic taper and, best of all, there’s a brand-new, more secure “Safe-Lock” clasp.

Behind the closed caseback is the same movement used in the larger Field Chronometer, the Swiss-made Soprod Cal. M100 automatic, which is COSC-certified and has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Availability and pricing

The Ref. 7505 is not a replacement for Serica’s 38mm Field Chronometer. Rather, the two collections now live side by side in Serica’s catalog, ensuring that there’s a field watch for nearly every wrist.

As always with Serica, the price of the new 35mm Field Chronometer is beyond reasonable. The Black and Olive Green models retail for just $1,291, while the fancier TXD version is priced a bit higher at $1,409. All three are available to order now directly from Serica.
