From the beginning, the allure and hype around the MoonSwatch has been driven by designed scarcity more than affordability. Swatch could easily produce more, but doing so would tarnish the vibe, so to speak.

For the Swiss titan of timekeeping’s latest MoonSwatch series, the scarcity is again manufactured with a limited number of units compounded by a tight availability timeframe.

Going for the gold

Swatch released the first Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold reference on August 9, the date of this year’s “Sturgeon Moon.” It was only available in Swatch boutiques on that day.

The next entry in the series followed suit on September 8, when the “Harvest Moon” illuminated the night sky.

Fortunately for anyone who missed out on those two, Swatch is extending the purchase window for the next Moonshine Gold. October’s “Hunter’s Moon” will again be exclusive to select Swatch boutiques, but fans will have two weeks to get their hands on one this time.

Extending the window breaks a trend Swatch established in 2023 with the original Mission to Moonshine Gold series, which followed the same lunar release calendar. That series offered specially colored gilded chronograph seconds hands on theme with each month’s full moon astrological title.

Under the Hunter’s Moon

Much like the Mission to Moonshine Gold series before it, each entry in the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold series is identical, save for one Moonshine Gold detail. In this case, it’s the moon images on the moonphase dial that change each month.

Swatch’s navy blue Bioceramic case and fixed tachymeter bezel frame a glimmering white opaline dial with a sparkling dark blue minute track, 60-minute totalizer track, moon phase plate, Earth phase plate and handset.

The moonphase features two moons, exposed through upper and lower openings corresponding to the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, decorated in Omega’s Moonshine Gold alloy. One is cartoonish with Snoopy’s paw print, and the other is realistic with a symbol for each month’s full moon.

For October 2025, the “Hunter’s Moon” is indicated by a pointing finger, which is confusing compared to the fishing net on the “Sturgeon Moon” and the popcorn on the “Harvest Moon.” Going by Swatch’s proclamation that “Moonshine Gold wants you,” it may be a nod to NASA by way of Uncle Sam, rather than an astrological sign.

It could also refer to the Hunter Moon being one of the brightest full moons of the year, which gained its name by providing hunters with extra illumination. It may mean “I see you,” but Swatch doesn’t provide an explanation.

First beagle on the moon

Lumping the entire Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold series together (because it’s basically the same watch), it is only the second watch to utilize Swatch’s Earth phase complication, after the feature debuted on 2024’s Mission to Earthphase.

While providing no functional value (much like many watch complications, if we’re being honest), the Earth phase depicts the view of our planet’s surface as seen from the Moon. It is essentially a moonphase from the reverse perspective.

Snoopy and his level-headed sidekick, Woodstock, gaze up at the novel complication while sitting on the lunar surface in space suits. The image features a hidden message written in lume that only appears under blacklight. It is a thought bubble exclaiming, “I beat everybody,” floating in the blank space between the friends and the Earth phase window.

This quote is pulled from a 1969 comic strip in which Snoopy imagines himself beating NASA, the Russians and the cat next door to the moon. The same message appears on the caseback underneath the battery panel.

Snoopy’s boast glows in the same blue shade as the Earth in the window, while the central hands and hour markers glow green.

Admittedly, the difference between each entry in the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold series is even less significant than the Mission to Moonshine Gold references.

However, this ongoing series, with potentially nine more releases to come, is making it easier for fans to access one of Swatch’s coolest complications, which no other watchmaker has duplicated.

Availability and price

Swatch’s newest entry in the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold series, the “Hunter’s Moon,” will be available for purchase from the full moon on October 7 until the next new moon rises on October 21.

That gives you two weeks to get to a Swatch boutique and land arguably the most entertaining MoonSwatch ever at face value. As with most iterations of the affordable Swatch Speedmaster, it will not be sold online.

That said, it is worth noting that the third entry in the series costs $50 more than the previous two, putting it at a whopping $450 for a MoonSwatch due to the Swiss tariffs.
