Are These Audiophile Loudspeakers the New Pinnacle of Modern Hi-Fi?

The French company claims the system “redefines what you can expect from an all-in-one hi-fi speaker.”

Focal has embraced wireless hi-fi in a big way.

In 2024, the French loudspeaker specialist introduced the Diva Utopia, its first wireless active speaker system. It boasted 800 watts of power, had numerous wired and wireless connections and cost $40,000.

Then, last year, the company introduced the Diva Mezza Utopia, which was a bigger, better and more expensive set of wireless active speakers. The 1,000-watt system cost $69,000.

Now, Focal is upping the ante once again with the Diva Alta Utopia. It’s the company’s most high-end wireless active speaker system to date.

All-in-one, audiophile system

Focal’s Diva Alta Utopia follows the same tried-and-true formula as its previous active speaker systems. It combines Focal’s loudspeaker expertise with Naim’s amplification and streaming expertise to create a super-high-performing, plug-and-play active speaker system. (Note: Naim is Focal’s sister company.)

“The Diva Alta Utopia redefines what you can expect from an all-in-one hi-fi speaker,” reads the press release. “It is aimed at the most demanding audiophiles and music lovers looking for an exceptional system, without the constraints of traditional installation.”

Inspired by $300,000 flagships

Naturally, the Diva Alta Utopia is an absolute behemoth of a wireless active speaker system.

Each floorstanding loudspeaker features a 4-way design with an acoustic architecture inspired by the Grande Utopia EM Evo, Focal’s flagship passive floorstanding speakers, which cost roughly $300,000/pair.

The speakers pack seven drivers, comprised of four woofers, two midrange drivers and the newest generation of its Prisim tweeter. And each is powered by 600 watts of Class AB amplification. That’s a 1,200-watt system. As for size, each speaker stands just under five feet tall and weighs 234 pounds.

Focal says that the system “creates a listening experience of extraordinary richness: every note unfolds with perfect clarity, every silence breathes, every instrumental detail comes alive.”

Makes high-end hi-fi, easy

Like its previous active speaker systems, the Diva Alta Utopia has multiple inputs (HDMI eARC, optical, RCA, USB), making it incredibly versatile.

On the streaming size, they support most Wi-Fi streaming methods, including Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast. The system supports Bluetooth streaming, too.

Also, the system supports UWB technology, meaning the two speakers can connect wirelessly and still play 24-bit/96kHz audio. This allows for greater flexibility when placing the speakers, as you don’t have to worry about speaker cables connecting the two.

That said, for the best audio quality (24-bit/192kHz), you’ll want to connect the two speakers with the provided cable.

Each set of Diva Alta Utopia is designed and manufactured in France, just like all of Focal’s other high-end loudspeakers. The Diva Alta Utopia will be available in five finishes. This includes two felt (grey or ivory) and three lacquered and varnished finishes (black, off-white and dune).

The floating side panels of each loudspeaker are interchangeable, which Focal claims allows the speaker’s appearance to be transformed at will, between felt and high-gloss lacquer finishes, without altering the speaker itself.

Availability and pricing

Focal’s Diva Alta Utopia will be available in August 2026.

The system costs $210,000 for both felt and high-gloss lacquer finishes.
