Bremont has maintained an official relationship with Britain’s Ministry of Defense since 2019 and was the first luxury watchmaker granted a license to use the official insignia of all three branches of His Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF).

Which is why the British brand is allowed to feature the Royal Navy’s heraldic badge on the dial of the new HMAF Supermarine. It’s the highlight of a new trio of civilian watches celebrating Britain’s military.

Bremont’s HMAF collection dates back to 2020, when it released a bronze version of the old Broadsword field watch in three different dial colors representing the three branches. This update offers far more variety, taking advantage of the brand’s new flagship dive, pilot’s and field watches released over the past couple of years.

The Supermarine 300m debuted in 2024 as part of Bremont’s full rebranding following the departure of its co-founders, brothers Nick and Giles English. It adopted classic diver design language, offering much broader appeal than any of the brand’s previous aquatic tool watches.

The HMAF Supermarine adds a coarse finish to its 40mm 904L stainless steel case, inspired by the hulls of Royal Navy ships. The coin-edge bezel frame and signed crown feature a matching finish.

The monotone, muddled gray motif carries over to the quick-release leather pin buckle strap with white side stitching.

Officer class

While it doesn’t offer the historical prestige of divers issued by the Ministry of Defense in the past, such as the ‘MilSub’ and the Seamaster 300M, Bremont’s HMAF Supermarine is a gorgeous watch with one distinct advantage.

Placed just above the 6:00 index, replacing the typical descriptive text, is the crown insignia of the British Royal Navy, something rarely seen on a watch dial.

The rest of the matte charcoal dial is tastefully pragmatic, featuring the collection’s standard sword hour and minute hands, arrow seconds hand and applied indices. There is a frameless date window at 3:00 with a color-matched disc, and a white 60-minute track printed on the gray rehaut.

Blue-emitting Super-LumiNova fills the hour markers and hands, contrasted by a green-emitting pip on the gray ceramic bezel insert. There is a 60-minute countdown track with a fully graduated 15-minute segment on the bezel.

By Royal appointment

The British Royal Navy’s crown insignia is also featured on the screw-on caseback, alongside the heraldic emblems of the British Army and the Royal Air Force.

Obscured beneath the coarse steel caseback is a Bremont Caliber BB64 automatic movement. This customized Sellita Caliber SW300-1 beats at 4Hz, is equipped with a Nivaflex mainspring and offers an enhanced 56-hour power reserve.

Land, sea and air

Issued alongside the HMAF Supermarine is the HMAF Altitude 39 Date, a pilot’s watch that debuted in 2025 featuring a pared-down dial with the RAF insignia above the 6:00 index. Rounding out the new HMAF collection is a Terra Nova 40.5 Date field watch, featuring a “California dial” and the British Army insignia at 9:00.

Availability and pricing

The Supermarine 300m reversed course on Bremont’s status as a dive watch brand. It went from the brand’s weakest category to, as far as I’m concerned, its strongest. That became abundantly clear to me when I had the chance to preview the entire HMAF collection, and the tonal gray diver completely overshadowed its Royally-licensed companions.

Bremont’s HMAF collection is available now from Bremont, with the HMAF Supermarine priced at $4,550, the HMAF Terra Nova 40.5 Date priced at $3,550 and the HMAF Altitude 39mm Date priced at $4,950. All three references are limited to 300 pieces each.
