KEF’s affordable bookshelf speakers

Released in late 2024, the Q1 Meta is the most affordable pair of passive bookshelf speakers that KEF currently sells.

At the time of their release, the British audio maker claimed that it was bringing “high-fidelity sound to more people than ever before, combining a sleek, modern design with cutting-edge technology.”

The Q1 Meta are bookshelf speakers with a two-way bass-reflex design. And they are equipped with KEF’s latest-generation Uni-Q driver, featuring its proprietary Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT).

This is the same driver-and-tech combo that KEF currently utilizes in its higher-end R Series Meta range and popular LS50 Meta hi-fi speakers.

The only caveat is that the Q1 Meta aren’t the easiest bookshelf speakers to drive, requiring an amplifier that can handle a 4-ohm nominal load and deliver between 50 to 150 watts per channel.
