Another week down, and, per usual, a bunch of new tech and gadgets have been announced.
This past week, Leica revealed its most advanced full-frame camera, Meta announced its most affordable smart glasses, and Triange introduced a new loudspeaker range. But that’s just scratching the surface.
Below, we’ve rounded up all the most interesting new releases and announcements you might have missed from the past week.
Acoustic EnergyAcoustic Energy AE2 (40th Anniversary Edition)
Acoustic Energy has introduced a limited-edition version of its AE2 standmount loudspeakers to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary. Like the originals, which were discontinued in the early 2000s, they’re two-way, triple reflex-ported standmount loudspeakers featuring three drivers: two woofers and a tweeter. But each speaker has been upgraded with “technological refinements,” including newly developed woofer and tweeter drive units. According to the brand, it “offers the scale and authority of a small floor-standing loudspeaker with the very low cabinet coloration, 3D imaging and ease of placement of a stand-mount speaker.”
LeicaLeica SL3-P
The Leica SL3-P is the most advanced full-frame camera in the company’s SL-System. It combines a new 44-megapixel full-frame sensor with Leica’s latest hybrid autofocus system. This gives it the ability to capture up to 176-megapixel images, as well as shoot at up to 40 frames per second with full autofocus support. The camera can also shoot 8K video and 4K slow-motion video (up to 120 fps). Additionally, Leica is launching the SL3-P alongside two advanced lenses: Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. and APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8. According to the brand, the SL3-P “meets the highest photographic and cinematic standards, while also offering non-professional users easy access to high-quality image and video production.”
MetaMeta Glasses
To date, Meta has only introduced smart glasses under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, which made them quite expensive (the most affordable were the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer, priced at $379). Now, with the all-new Meta Glasses, it’s partnered with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of both Ray-Ban and Oakley, to introduce some even more affordable models that work basically exactly the same; they have mostly the same specs. The Meta Glasses come in three styles: Adventurer, Fury and Starfire. The first two cost $299, while the third was designed with the help of Kylie Jenner and starts at $399.
WyzeWyze Scale BodyScan
Wyze’s Scale BodyScan is a smart scale positioned as a more affordable alternative to the company’s Ultra BodyScan, released last fall. Similarly, the Scale BodyScan has the same eight-electrode and built-in handle system that allows it to track way more metrics (including muscle mass, body fat, physical age, basal metabolism and more) than just weight. The main tradeoffs with this more affordable model is that it has a smaller display and lacks built-in Wi-Fi.
