Earlier this year, Triangle released the second generation of its wireless active speakers: the Capella 2. The system, consisting of two bookshelf-size active speakers and a streaming hub (which also houses all the wired inputs), costs $3,499. It’s aimed at new-age audiophiles.

Fast forward a few months, and the French loudspeaker manufacturer is getting back to its passive roots with the launch of Solstice. It’s a new midrange loudspeaker series, aimed at more traditional audiophiles looking to take the next step up in their hi-fi journey.

Not a rebrand, a reinvention

The new Solstice series sits between the company’s entry-level Borea and ultra-elite Signature and Magellan ranges. It’s replacing the long-running Esprit series as the company’s midrange offering.

However, this isn’t a simple rebrand. Triangle claims that each loudspeaker in the Solstice series has been designed from the ground up, with every major component has been re-engineered.

“For more than three decades, the Esprit range earned a reputation for high sensitivity, natural tonal balance and strong value,” reads the company’s press release. “Solstice marks the next chapter, introducing new technologies throughout the loudspeaker while preserving the musical character that has defined Triangle designs.”

These new technologies include a redesigned horn tweeter and a new driver architecture, as well as updated cabinet construction and an improved speaker base.

Three loudspeaker models

Like the Esprit series before it, the new Solstice series consists of three passive loudspeaker models: one bookshelf, one floorstanding and one center channel. And, naturally, they’re designed to work together in either stereo or home hi-fi systems.

The Solstice 3 are the range’s bookshelf speakers. They have a two-way bass-reflex design that pairs a 25mm horn tweeter with 16cm cellulose midrange driver. Triangle claims they have a bandwidth of 48Hz–22kHz with 90-watt RMS power handling

The Solstice 8 are the range’s floorstanding speakers. They have a three-way bass-reflex design, featuring the same tweeter and midrange driver as the Solstice 3, plus dual 16cm concave-cone woofers. Triangle claims they have a bandwidth of 38Hz–22kHz with 130-watt RMS power handling

Lastly, the Solstice C3 is the range’s two-way center channel speaker. It pairs the same 25mm horn tweeter with two of the same 16cm cellulose midrange drivers.

All three loudspeakers in the Solstice range come in four finishes: white, black, teak and birch. And they come with matching magnetic grilles. Triangle also makes matching stands for the Solstice 3 bookshelf speakers, which are sold separately.
