Ford’s Most Potent Pickup Truck Evolves Into a True Apex Predator

Ram’s decision to revive the TRX this year is one that’s disrupted the natural order of the off-road performance pickup world. 

After years of vying with the Ford Raptor to be alpha, the truck has returned bringing such an increase that it’s unquestionably top dog once again. Even the more potent R model now trails its Ram rival by 50-plus horsepower.

Still, that’s not to say Ford’s most carnivorous double-cab is about to take this kind of challenge on the chin. In the hands of the right tuner, the truck has the potential to reclaim its spot at the top of the food chain.

Just look at what Shelby has cooked up for the 2026 model year with its Baja Raptor treatment. Whether you go for the base or the Predator-powered R, it delivers some impressive gains, even compared to past versions.

In the case of the former, Shelby adds touches like functional scoops and additional cooling to squeeze out a further 100 horsepower from the turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. As such, output for the rowdy F-series improves to a hearty 550 hp.

Assuming that figure somehow leaves you wanting, the Baja Raptor R is likely to be more your speed. Between a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, a special Borla exhaust and some dual-core cooling, Shelby says it’s now capable of delivering “well over 1,000 horsepower.”

That’s a number that puts the TRX squarely in its place, as it not only represents a huge increase over the factory 720-horsepower Ford total but also Ram’s own 777 figure. It’s a truly apocalyptic amount to have in a pickup.

An imposing overhaul

Beyond their mammoth power increases, Shelby’s Baja Raptors benefit from some sweet new off-road accouterments.

Along with rolling on two-tone 18-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch mud-terrain tires, they also gain Addictive Desert Designs high-clearance bumpers and a litany of auxiliary LED lights. With the new grille and stripes, it’s a racy look.

Even still, the package’s pièce de résistance is located at the rear. 

In the bed of the Baja Raptor, Shelby fits a sweet chase rack that comes with a nine-pod light bar. It also lets other drivers know that your pickup is a real pre-runner because it mounts a pair of full-size spares.

Finished off with a plastering of Shelby badging and some custom interior accents in the form of seat covers, gauges and mats, it’s far from a subtle truck. As such, you better be committed to the truck life if you plan on picking one up for yourself.

Availability and pricing

Then again, with prices starting at $146,795 for the V6 version and $194,795 for the V8, you’re already making a hefty investment to rule the roost. However, if you want a Blue Oval pickup that’ll take stomp on the TRX, this may be your best solution.
