As one of the brand’s more minimalist silhouettes, New Balance’s 740N packs a pared-back build that is complemented by an upcoming collaboration with the similarly streamlined approach of Montreal-based lifestyle label JJJJound.
The celebrated Canadian design studio and the American sportswear brand have partnered on and off since 2018, but this shoe marks the first collaboration on a model outside of New Balance’s Made in UK and Made in USA lines.
The 740N “Mushroom” sees JJJJound’s signature neutral palette applied to one of New Balance’s “N,” or “no-sew,” models.
The 740N swaps traditional suede and synthetic overlays for a tightly woven mesh upper with fused synthetic overlays, resulting in a cleaner build.
JJJJound branding appears on the lateral heel, while red accents are placed on the tongue, laces and the signature ABZORB cushioning unit in the midsole.
The New Balance x JJJJound 740N “Mushroom” will debut on JJJJound’s website on July 30, with a wider release through New Balance expected at a later date.
