Spyderco Restyles Its $75 Tenacious Knife in a Fan-Favorite Jade G-10 Tanto Combo

Back in mid-July, Spyderco dropped a long-requested fan-favorite treatment of its legendary Paramilitary 2 pocket knife. Unsurprisingly, it sold out almost immediately, despite having an eye-watering $275 starting price point.

For those who missed out and want similar styling in a far more budget-friendly EDC blade, I have some excellent news for you. In collaboration with Blade HQ, Spyderco is launching the Tenacious Tanto Natural G-10.

The Spyderco Tenacious has always been one of the brand’s best all-around budget folders. It retains the brand’s signature styling details while making reasonable compromises to keep the price in a reasonable range. That remains true for this edition.

Technically, Blade HQ has the MSRP of this knife listed as $86, but as EDC fans all over know, this is rarely the take-home price. Despite the almost certain high demand for this knife, it will still only cost interested buyers under $75.

In all honesty, this would be a great deal if it were a standard Tenacious. But the fact that it’s a special configuration makes it all the more enticing. Unfortunately, that also means this knife is likely to sell out even faster than the PM2 tanto (and that one had two versions available).

I highly recommend that anyone interested in this knife sign in to their Blade HQ account and add this blade to their wishlist. If you’re not on top of the 12 PM EST drop time, you’re gonna have a hard time snagging it.

The tanto blade maintains its 8Cr13MoV construction, but the shape gives it a strength boost at the tip.

Configure it out

A lot about the standard Tenacious remains intact here, even beyond its price point. For instance, the 8Cr13MoV blade material is unchanged. It even gets a satin finish, in line with the base model.

But the shape is a major departure. Instead of the classic leaf shape, this one (obviously) comes with a tanto. This both kicks the tactical styling up a notch and delivers a stronger overall piercing point without sacrificing the cutting edge (although it is slightly more complicated to sharpen, should you hope to maintain the through line).

In all honesty, this would be a great deal if it were a standard Tenacious. But the fact that it’s a special configuration makes it all the more enticing.

The same goes for the other side of the knife. The handle has a four-position reversible pocket clip, liner lock and G-10 handle scales — all standard. But that jade color and semi-translucence of the natural G-10 is special and helps set this knife apart from its brethren.

Altogether, the knife measures 7.75 inches with a 3.5-inch blade, and it weighs 3.9 ounces. While not as high-performance as the PM2 that came before it, this is a highly respectable EDC performer that gets major bonus points for style.

At 7.75 inches total, this is a full-sized, hard-working EDC knife at a bargain-bin price.
