Civivi’s Robust New EDC Knife Looks Way Too Good for Its Price

The brand’s latest Bluetick is neither blue nor a tick, but it is really, really, really ridiculously good looking.

More often than not, knife names are often rather odd — if not outright random collections of letters that are not actual words.

The former is the case with Civivi’s Bluetick, which sent me Googling. According to the interwebs, this term likely refers to one of two things.

This Bluetick is not above employing a bit of deception to ape flashy knives costing several times as much.

It’s either the Bluetick Coonhound, a devoted, smart and tenacious dog with a “ticked” coat and strong hunting instincts or the smartphone messaging symbol, which in singular form typically indicates your note has been “sent” but not necessarily “delivered” or “read.”

I’m going to lean toward the first definition, because the latest edition of this knife boasts “tenacious” capability, while its deceptively high-end looks most definitely deliver.

Material mirage

Let’s start with the looks, because that’s where this knife really stands out, thanks largely to its ingredients.

That’s because the newest member of the now five-knife Bluetick family is one of only two to feature a blade made of Damascus steel, which almost always makes a knife look pricier than it is.

Damascus steel plus a carbon fiber overlay makes for quite an attractive pair.

This material boasts thousands of years of history, a dynamically rippling sheen and a compelling combo of edge retention and toughness

Here it gets a classic drop-point silhouette measuring a generous 3.47 inches long, with rather dramatic jimping on the spine.

All that said, the blade is mated to a handle that’s even more responsible for its overperforming aesthetics.

Sneaking G10 under the carbon fiber does not detract from the looks, but it does add a bit to the weight.

The ergonomically shaped scales appear to be made of premium carbon fiber, but in reality it’s a carbon fiber overlay on black G10.

Don’t worry, nobody but you — and I guess anyone who actually hefts this 3.34-ounce beauty — needs to know.

Functional AF

Notwithstanding this bit of visual trickery, the knife itself can absolutely tackle just about any everyday task you encounter.

Deploying via a rear flipper, the blade is plenty long, wide and sharp enough for slashing through packing tape and cutting twine.

The 3.47-inch blade is plenty big enough for general EDC use — and some ambitious outdoor adventures too.

It’s also burly enough to penetrate hermetic plastic packaging and slice meats, cheeses and fruit on your next outdoor adventure.

Adding to its utility is a caged ceramic ball bearing, which assists smooth deployment, and a nested liner lock, which ensures the blade stays in place.

Last but not least, the Bluetick features a stainless steel pocket clip. Because when you have a knife that looks this good, regardless of the asking price, you sure don’t want to lose it.

This particular Civivi Bluetick (C23050-DS2) is available for pre-order now for $105. Less dressy treatments start at just $65.
