Why does this chair cost more than my tent?

First, let’s dive into materials, shall we? The Reclining Camp Chair Wide is designed in Japan and constructed with heavy-duty, rust-resistant anodized aluminum, natural teak wood armrests and a breathable polyester mesh seat.

The chair includes an integrated headrest, removable cushion and matching ottoman, which any chair of this caliber would obviously be incomplete without.

The Reclining Chair Wide offers four recline positions, and it can get almost flat to reach peak lounging. I could easily see a campsite nap taking place in this cushy seat.

At almost 27 pounds, Snow Peak’s new recliner isn’t even close to lightweight, but for car camping and extended overlanding trips, its bulk can be overlooked.

When it’s time to pack up, both the chair and the included ottoman can be folded flat for ultimate packing convenience (its own type of luxury.)

Not to compare, but …

Let’s address the elephant in the room: the Snow Peak Reclining Chair Wide is twice as heavy and costs $200 more than the mega popular Yeti Camp Chair, which had previously set the bar for crazy-expensive, super-high-quality camp chairs that boggled the mind.

While the Yeti is durable, reliable and folds down to a packable size much like Snow Peak’s competitor, it lacks the je ne sais quoi of the Reclining Camp Chair, which oozes style. (The Yeti has a cupholder, so I guess there’s that.)

It’s not just the Yeti that comes in cheaper and works as well as the Reclining Camp Chair Wide. There are tons of chairs to compare Snow Peak’s recliner to … none of which I would dare set up in my living room permanently.

That’s the beauty of Snow Peak; its goods are built to transcend the campsite. I’d feel just as comfortable feng shui-ing this thing at home as I would by the campfire. In fact, I already use the brand’s Campfield Futon set up in my Airstream trailer (which my family and I lived in full-time for over four years.)
