By taking a page out of the running super shoe playbook, Reebok may have just created the world’s first-ever do-it-all super shoe.

Almost a decade after the appearance of the first “super” running shoe, the idea of a carbon-plated running shoe is neither novel nor rare.

These enhanced race day kicks and daily trainers are pretty ubiquitous, but until this point, the technology hadn’t made the jump from lacing up to log a few miles to cross training. That all changes with Reebok’s new Nano Pro Training Shoes.

Reebok claims its newly updated, insanely popular cross-training shoes are the first training shoes on the market to feature carbon plate technology, essentially making them the first “super” training shoe.

Cross-training, amplified

The primary benefit of inserting a plate into running shoes is energy return: the plate, typically but not always made from carbon, improves performance by stiffening the sole to enhance energy return, improve forward momentum and increase running economy.

Transfer that power and momentum to box jumps, squats, HIIT workouts and any cross-training that requires dynamic bursts of power, and you’ve got quite the advantage for your daily workout on your feet.

Since its debut in 2011, Reebok’s Nano has been a popular mainstay in the gym, thanks to its versatility, stability, comfort and cushioning.

By adding a carbon plate, Reebok isn’t just drastically improving its best cross-training shoe: it’s also making the Nano Pro more versatile by enhancing its running capabilities.

The new do-it-all super shoe

The Nano Pro Training Shoes take everything fans know about the daily trainer and add in plenty of tech. The primary update is the addition of Reebok’s proprietary Graphlite Plate System.

This is a lightweight carbon-fiber plate embedded in the midsole, connected to Reebok’s Lift and Chassis midsole system. The combo offers extra propulsion for runs and explosive movements.

The decoupled outsole further enhances the running capability of the Nano Pro, thanks to a deep channel that runs across the middle of the shoe, allowing the front and back of the foot to move more independently and providing a more natural feel underfoot.

A flexible upper with a molded collar adds comfort to each stride, jump or pivot, and Reebok’s SuperFloat foam makes for an ultra-responsive ride.

Basically, Reebok took your favorite gym shoe and made it even better for a wider variety of workouts, including running. Sounds like a super shoe to me.

Availability and pricing

The new Reebok Nano Pro Training Shoes retail for $225, which is standard for super shoes, but a 60 percent price increase compared to the brand’s Nano X5 Training Shoe.

However, with the potential to boost workout performance, the Pro “super” shoe version may be worth the extra cost.

The Nano Pro Training Shoe is available now on Reebok’s official website.
