On’s Top-Tier Race-Day Shoe Gets a Major Upgrade

The popular brand’s second generation of its marathon-winning shoes get a major technical update, engineered for racing at the highest level.

These days, it seems like everyone and their mother is training for a marathon (myself included). Running is hotter than ever, which means technical footwear is heating up right alongside it.

Keeping pace with the hype, Swiss sportswear giant On just announced the second generation of its acclaimed marathon shoe.

Featuring updated performance tech and the same sleek profile, the Cloudboom Strike 2 may be tuned for race day, but it’s versatile enough to excel in anything from a 5K to 26.2.

Ready, set, run

The recently announced Cloudboom Strike 2 introduces subtle-but-impactful advancements to the race day model.

On’s marathon shoe has been upgraded to maximize efficiency, sustain speed and enhance comfort over long runs (and short ones too, for what it’s worth).

Alongside the Cloudboom Strike 2, On is also introducing the second generation of the laceless Lightspray version.

The biggest change comes in the form of a major evolution to On’s proprietary CloudTec foam engineering system: CloudTec Sphere, which features independent cushioning channels separated by thin gaps between the forefoot and the midfoot.

The separation allows the foam to move more freely, and therefore, the foot can shift as needed as well.

Paired with the upgraded Helion hyper foam (HF) midsole, which is 15 percent lighter than the first generation of Cloudboom Strike, and the stiffer Curved Carbon Speedboard insert, the second generation of On’s race day shoe has more momentum than ever.

On’s revolutionary Lightspray Cloudboom Strike 2 will also get an upgraded release alongside the standard Cloudboom Strike 2, for runners who desire the most innovative tech available.

Availability and pricing

On will release the Cloudboom Strike 2 and the LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 on July 30, for $250 and $310, respectively.
