Snoopy is the undisputed cartoon king of watches, and there are more affordable options celebrating the affable cartoon beagle than ever before.

It’s hard to stand out in that crowd, but Timex offers a chronograph appealing for its simplicity and a resemblance to one of the most hyped appearances of Charlie Brown’s best friend on a luxury watch dial.

Snoopy has been gracing the dials of Timex watches since 1969, and despite the long list of contenders, it is easily the cartoon icon’s most prolific horological partnership.

I won’t declare the Q Timex Chronograph x Peanuts Snoopy the “Best Snoopy Timex” because even the most dedicated collectors — which I am not — likely haven’t seen every release. But it is undoubtedly one of the best in recent years.

Much of the appeal comes from the watch’s resemblance to Omega’s lauded Silver Snoopy Award Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Edition. Both chronographs feature Snoopy in the nine o’clock sub-dial with his arms open and a jolly smile on his face.

Of course, on Timex’s dial, he isn’t wearing a space suit and is sitting rather than prancing — presumably on the lunar surface. However, removing the NASA tie-in broadens the appeal of the far, far more affordable alternative.

The only problem is that the Q Timex Chronograph x Peanuts Snoopy sold out shortly after its November 2024 release. Fortunately, Timex has a restock on the way and is now taking pre-orders.

Hang on Snoopy

The Q Timex collection is full of affordable vintage-inspired watches. Many are faithful reproductions of Timex models from the 1970s, while others are inspired by the distinctive design language of that decade.

The Q Timex Chronograph is one of the collection’s most popular designs due to its loose resemblance to the Rolex Daytona and has spawned a series of iterations.

The Q Timex Chronograph x Peanuts Snoopy offers the quartz timer in its simplest and most versatile form, decorating a steel case and silver dial with black detailing.

The panda design popularized by the Daytona matches the iconic beagle’s color palette, creating a discrete home for him tucked away on the running seconds dial.

Naturally, the specs show a significant drop-off compared to Omega’s Snoopy chronograph. The Q Timex runs on a quartz movement, and the chronograph seconds hand has an achingly slow reset.

The sub-dial at three o’clock displays a synced 24-hour time, one of my biggest pet peeves in watchmaking. The chronograph has one totalizer, counting up to 60 minutes at six o’clock.

If you don’t mind a jumpy quartz hand, this Q Timex offers excellent bang for your buck. The fixed bezel has a tachymeter scale, the applied hour markers and all three central hands have lume inserts and the battery is easy to access with a dedicated panel.

The angular 40mm steel case is finished with a blend of mirror polish on the top and sides and brushing over the covered lugs. It comes on a black pebble grain leather strap with quick-release pins and a signed pin buckle.

Availability and price

Which brings us to the big selling point: at $11,900, Omega’s coveted Snoopy-sporting Speedmaster costs 48 times as much as Timex’s alternative — and that’s if you can get one. Long waitlists and inflated secondary market prices make the watch considerably more expensive than its sticker price.

The Q Timex Chronograph x Peanuts Snoopy, by contrast, is available for pre-order now from Timex for just $249.

It isn’t slated to ship until January, which is a very long lead for a brand that doesn’t do many pre-sales and even fewer this far in advance.
