While most people recognize Filson for its heritage outerwear, the brand first came to my attention as a bag maker, and I swear by my — sadly discontinued — Rugged Twill Rucksack.

Yes, the Seattle outfitter is an elder statesman in waxed canvas jackets and offers one of the most adored wool shackets ever designed, among dozens of other heritage clothing items. But Filson’s bag assortment simply can’t be beat.
