“To all whom it may concern. Be it known that I, Clinton C. Filson … have invented certain new and useful improvements in shirts.”
Thus reads the 1914 patent for Filson’s classic Mackinaw Wool Cruiser, a garment so enduring that even a century later, it remains one of the most imitated pieces of outerwear across America.
It would seem that not even Filson is immune to its charms.
Quietly released ahead of the holiday travel season, the brand’s latest travel bag co-opts the Mackinaw’s heavy-duty wool exterior for a duffel that’s high on style, heritage and time-tested ruggedness.

Thick as wool, then thicker
According to the specs of the Medium Mackinaw Wool Duffle, it features the same 24-ounce wool found in the famous outerwear. However, Filson doesn’t disclose whether or not it comes from US sources.
